3 Essential Skills for Mediumship Training with a Spiritual Meditation

  • by

To develop your mediumship skills, you need to include spiritual meditation, practicing presence, and engaging your spirit. These habits will advance your psychic mediumship abilities and help you connect with Spirit.

Mediumship validates life being a continuous process rather than one that ends with the death of a physical body. It opens spiritual pathways we can all access, yet few ever realize.

There are things you can do to improve your mediumship abilities and get the most out of your training.  These three practices will help your spiritual practice and mediumship skills SOAR!

1. Spiritual Meditation for Mediumship Development

The first step for developing your mediumship skills is to meditate regularly. Mediumship is a spiritual practice, and meditation is at the foundation of all spiritual practice. I don’t know any great mediums or spiritual teachers that do not meditate.

All mediumship teachers stress the importance of meditation, but many of them do not tell you how to go about it. It can be confusing with so many different styles of meditation. There are guided meditations, mantra meditations, walking meditations, quiet meditations, and many other types.

How to Meditate

For mediumship practice and spirituality in general, simple is the best. I recommend developing a basic practice of meditation. Follow these steps to begin your practice today.

  1. Find a quiet place
  2. Sit up or sit cross-legged.
  3. Tune into your breathing.
  4. Relax your body, clear thoughts, and stay loosely focused on your breath.
  5. Be aware and stay present.

Beginning a Spiritual Meditation Practice

If you’re new to meditation, start small. Set a timer for two minutes and just be quiet. Once you can do it for two minutes, raise it to three minutes and then to four minutes.

Remember it’s a process, and it may take some time. Don’t get frustrated. Don’t get down on yourself.  Just keep practicing.  You’ll get better over time.

I’ve been meditating 40 years, and thoughts will still pop up in my mind. If a thought comes up, be aware of it and gently nudge it aside.  Then go back to your breath and breathing.

Your breath is the vehicle to meditation. As you meditate, be aware of your inhale, your exhale, your body, and everything around you, but focus on nothing.

You want to work up to 10 minutes a day, then 20 minutes or longer. Start doing this today. Do this as a daily practice. It’s going to make your mediumship, and everything in your life stronger.

Meditation – Points of Resistance

Many people face difficulties or points of resistance when they begin a meditation practice. Some people have a hard time quieting their minds. Others get anxious or fall asleep. These points of resistance can be discouraging because we don’t think we’re doing it right.

When you meditate, you’re changing the structure of your mind. During meditation, the egoic part of our mind resists the process. The ego thinks its survival is being threatened and throws out a lot of challenges.

The filters between the conscious and the subconscious mind start to dissolve during meditation.  This can cause subconscious issues to rise to the surface. When beginning a meditation practice, some people struggle to quiet their minds and may become fidgety.

Meditation is a process. In theory, it’s simple, but not in practice. It will get easier with time, and there are many benefits from daily spiritual meditation.

Benefits of Meditation

There have been studies on meditation and its benefits. Some of the many benefits include needing less sleep and being healthier.  People who meditate regularly are also happier and have more energy.

Meditation is a necessity for mediumship. I recommend a basic practice in spiritual meditation. Try the practice above. This basic form of meditation is the most effective practice to develop your mediumship.

You can work with other forms of meditation as you develop your skills.  Guided meditations and mantra meditations are great but begin with the fundamental practice first.

How Spiritual Meditation Helps with Mediumship Training

Meditation quiets the mind and raises your vibrations. These are the exact qualities that you need to be a skilled medium. You need to quiet your mind for the subtle voice of Spirit to access you. You also need to raise your vibration and raise your energy to that of Spirit.

Breathing is a crucial part of meditation.  If you want to learn more about breathing exercises, please check out my video on breathing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRTeon-PmuM&t=71s

My training, The Essentials of Breathing, will teach you a variety of breathing exercises.  To learn more about it, please contact me by email at [email protected].

2. The Art of Presence Will Develop Your Psychic and Mediumship Skills

To be an effective medium, you must be open and aware of subtle energies. You need to develop the Art of Presence.

Most people are perpetually in their internal dialogue. Their monkey mind chatters away all day. They miss a lot of what’s going on because they’re distracted by their thoughts. When you’re present, you’re not thinking.  You’re open and experiencing the Art of Presence.

Being present starts with being aware, beginning with your breathing. You’re taking your meditation practice out into the world.

Every spiritual teacher from Lao-Tzu to Buddha talks about the importance of presence.  Eckhart Tolle wrote a 300-page book called, The Power of Now, on being present.

When you’re present, your mind is not cluttered. Spirit has a much easier time accessing you when your thoughts are clear.  Your vibration also raises when you become present, and this brings you closer to Spirit.

My Experience with Being Present at Lily Dale, New York

A few summers ago, I was at Lily Dale, a well-known spiritualist community. Mediums go there to develop and practice their skills. At Lily Dale, they allow visiting mediums that have an affiliation with the spiritualist church to give messages as a public service.

That summer, I was having a lot of trouble with my message work. Not all my contacts were being taken, and some of the information appeared to be wrong. I was getting down on myself.

On the third day, I was getting ready to go to Inspirational Stump, which is one of the places they do outdoor message services. Sometimes there are hundreds of people there for mediumship readings.

I was meditating before I left, and my guides came through.  They told me to practice presence and to stop being so complicated.  They kept saying, “Just Be Present”!

That was a “duh” moment for me because I’ve been practicing the art of presence for a while. I know about it, but sometimes I forget, and the ego gets in the way.

I stayed in my presence up to the message service. When I was called up, I was still in my state of presence. I wasn’t trying to get contacts ahead of time or worrying about how I was going to do it.  I stayed with my breath and remained present.

I went up there and introduced myself, and BOOM! A very unusual name and an even more uncommon way that he passed came through. All the information that came in was so specific and on point. Any medium would have been happy with it.

The rest of the time that I was there flowed like magic. I learned a valuable lesson there about being present and how important it is for mediumship.

How to Practice the Art of Presence

This is how to practice the Art of Presence. I call this process, Presence of Power. It’s straight out of the pages of Eckhart Tolle’s book, The Power of Now. Practice it every day.

  • Every time you think about it, stop your thoughts and tune into your breathing.
  • Be aware of your breath, your body, and the space around you.
  • Continue along your day until something takes you out of that practice.
  • The next time you think about it, repeat the process.

To help me remember to be present, I put notes around my house saying, “PRESENCE”. It reminds me to be in the now.

Being Present Improves Your Mediumship Abilities

Practicing presence will make a substantial difference in your mediumship skills. It will raise your vibration and help you access the spirit world.

Most people go through their days thinking about what they must do and their problems. They think about their fears, dramas, and traumas. If your mind is too cluttered, spirits can have a hard time accessing you.

When you’re engaged in thought, you also close yourself off to the world around you. The more physically aware you are, the more spiritually aware you’ll be. Being present is a practice for life.

Power attunements is my interactive coaching program. The first lesson is all about being present. You can learn more about this training here.

3. Engaging Your Spirit and Mediumship

The single most important thing that you can do to develop your mediumship skills is to start engaging your own spirit. In this society, we’ve forgotten who we are as Spirit. You bring yourself closer to the spirit world by reacquainting with your higher self or spirit.

The only difference between you and a dead person is that you have a body. The person that crossed over no longer has their body. Other than that, we’re the same. If we own ourselves as Spirit, we’re going to have a much easier time connecting to those on the other side, our guides, and angels.

Spirit I Am Meditation

Whether living or deceased, we’re all connected through Spirit. My meditation, “Spirit I Am”, is a game-changer. It’s going to teach you to engage your spirit in everything that you do, including your mediumship. Just imagine what a difference that’s going to make in your life. You can find the meditation at timestamp 14:03 in my video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTMVG4dl1Oo&t=1124s

Do this spiritual meditation for 40 days, and you will see big shifts happen in your life. Science proves that the change will stick after 40 days of practice. The number 40 appears in the Bible and Yogic sciences as well.  You’ll notice a difference after using it once, but if you do it for 40 days, you’ll change your habits.

Spiritual Meditation, Being Present, and Engaging Your Spirit Will Improve Your Mediumship Abilities

You will see significant changes in your mediumship abilities if you incorporate these three practices into your daily routine. When you begin meditating, practicing presence, and engaging your spirit you will improve your connection to Spirit and will receive messages with ease.
